I just started playing Birdie Crush a few weeks ago. It has a lot going for it. First of all it has an awesome opening song that I absolutely adore. Secondly it has cute anime graphics with various costumes and equipment to collect that make it in part at least a Dressup game. Thirdly, even people that don’t like anime, like birdie crush for the golf gameplay such as my fiancé – finally found a cute game he will play with me lol .

I had previously reviewed CocoPPa Play Star Girl Fashion here. It is a cute anime dressup game for IOS and Android Devices. Many of my complaints were about lack of free gacha and how long it took to earn free gacha plays. – That has since changed. Now almost every gacha gives you one free play, just like in Dream Girlfriend, Fairy Doll, Animal Boyfriend, Moe Can Change, and Dream Boyfriend. The first time I reviewed CocoPPa Play, that was not the case, and while nearly every other dressup game I have played let you take at least 1 free spin on each gacha, it turned me off a great deal to CocoPPa Play in my first review.
CocoPPa Play deserves a new review, because now, with the frequent free gacha plays (new gachas are added almost daily) and there’s always constantly an event going on, so it’s honestly the game I spend the most time playing on my mobile phone, and I love it lol. Also I may have not understood how the events work, and new events have also been added since my old review, and it’s not as difficult as I thought to earn even further free gacha spins. In my old review I say the gacha tickets cost 20,000 points. They now cost 10,000. I don’t know if it was an error on my part before, or if the price has been lowered, but it is nice much easier to get free gacha tickets.

I have a ton of pics of CocoPPa Play on my instagram. I will sprinkle a few throughout this review. Unlike my previous review, I now have a lot of pics of my own models (as well as using some screenshots from the official app store pages).

Concept: 10/10 The concept of CocoPPaPlay is simple – play “gacha” machines or enter monthly events to win new outfits. Outfits consist of different layers, such as eyes(facial expression), hair, clothes, shoes, hand accessories (purses, stuffed toys, swords, etc), hats, glasses, pets, backgrounds, and other items – This allows you to really fine-tune and make unique avatars. Similar to games like Pokemini (which I reviewed here) or Line Play.
Gameplay: 9/10 I covered the basics above: There are a number of “lottery” style games (gacha machines) where you’re awarded an item for your outfit by paying or using a gacha ticket.
There are also numerous events to win exclusive outfits. It seems the events change every week or two and that never a day goes by without some type of event going on. Events fall into one of a few different catagories:
In all events you can earn “Lucky Tickets”: These items you can earn for free by cheering for other players shows or completing quest objectives. The lucky tickets can be used to try to play the lucky event gacha to win items/energy drinks, and/or used to raise your charm level for the event – I recommend trying to max your charm first. (similar to the events in Dream Girlfriend (which I reviewed here) Having high charm lets you get event points and rewards much quicker! Therefore its best to max it out asap. If you rank high based on your total event points at the end of the events, you get rare limited items.
Catch Requests: In a catch event, after cheering for other players’ shows, a creature will appear on your screen with a few different catching options above it’s head and showing a percentage of how likely you are to capture them. You can “chain” successful catches to get bonus points, but once you miss a catch, that bonus is reset. If you chain enough catches you’ll go to a special bonus round after your 11th catch, where you see three creatures. In this bonus round, catching at least 2 out of the 3 will take you to yet another bonus round with a super rare creature to catch for massive amounts of points. I like to save my double point and guaranteed accuracy catching glove items for these two rounds.
Fetch Requests: In a Fetch Event (as I have called it), there will be multiple “quest givers” who request items from you in exchange for event points. Go cheer for other players shows and complete quests to earn the requested items, then return to the events page to turn in your items for event points.
Beam Requests: In a beam quest you find characters again by cheering for other shows. Some characters are more rare than others. Once you find a character, you use a beam to “zap” them to transform them somehow. After transforming, they award you points, more points for more rare characters. You can request help, or help your friends take down difficult characters and get lots of points. This event is fun because it goes very fast with large groups of friends.

Fashion Snap: Dress up your avatar to suit a theme, and vote on “who wore it better”. You can earn a lot of gacha tickets in these events. They’re also the most fun in my opinion. New themes come very quickly – every day I believe. Fashion Snap often times requires you to use at least 1 item from the associated event gacha.
Fashion Labo: Fashion Labo (which I’m guessing stands for Fashion Laboratory) is very much like the Fashion Snap events – also Fashion Labo will be going on along side any one of the other events above. Fashion Labo is different from Fashion Snap in 2 ways: The frequency of the theme changing is much slower, and length of the entry periods for each theme are much, much, much longer in Fashion Labo (spanning several days or even a week or so per each theme). Like Fashion Snap, you dress up to match the theme, and judge other people’s entries. The other big difference is you earn blue and gold hearts that can be exchanged in a special shop for more rare items in addition to those available via the rank and leader boards and as quest rewards etc. Be sure to spend your hearts, because they do not roll over to future Fashion Labo events.

Overall, it cycles through these event styles, in a scheduled and precise way, so that you can anticipate what the next event type will be and plan when you want to play the game. I don’t know the schedule off hand (I don’t really pay that much attention to it) But let’s say it goes something like (this is not correct, just made up to illustrate my point:) If the cycle went like:
Fetch
Fashion Snap
Beam
Catch
then it would start again with Fetch and work in the same order again down that list.
And it would coincide at times with Fashion Labo.
NOTE: Fashion Labo is easy to miss. I missed a few of the themes this month. Because the icon for Fashion Labo is pretty much ALWAYS on your screen – Even when Fashion Labo ends, it lets players check their scores, view the contest winners, and etc by clicking the icon. So if you aren’t paying SUPER CLOSE attention, and notice that the icon has new artwork – thus indicating a new round of Fashion Labo, it’s easy to miss. I’m just going to get in the habit of checking that page daily. I recommend you do the same.
That’s about it for events. One of my favorite things about this game is that there is ALWAYS an event of some type, and thus ALWAYS rare time limited release items. So many items. Between these events and limited time gachas.
There’s also a club feature. You can at any level, any time, and for free, create (or join) a club. You can get bonuses in the events above by having club members where certain items or do certain tasks so clubs are really useful, you can also use them to chat and make friends which gives the game a nice social touch.
You also can take on quests from NPCs within the game, which when you complete, will add new items to their shops, and unlock new cities to explore, and grant you some free outfits. When a city “levels up” they have a sale with half priced items – but I never buy them – because I’m hoarding all my Smile Points to use in the gachas.
As a “bonus”, there’s another app by the makers of CocoPPaPlay, where you can customize your cellphone, with new icons, background images, wallpapers, lock screens, etc. This other app works best on android – because sadly, apple has a lot of bloatware that you cannot delete or modify – for example, the camera, you can’t change the icon for it on apple, the only work around is to download a 3rd party camera app, and hide your other icon in a folder somewhere. Email is another example, for example, you have to download Gmail, and hide the default mail app. You also can’t change the phone or text icons at all on the apple iphone. But it still makes your phone about 90% cuter – though it also makes your phone a little slower, as it adds an extra step whenever you click on one of the new icons it is only a shortcut to the actual program so you get prompted if you want to open the “page” with the following application. (At least on Iphone.) This other app also acts as a social media site, and if you link up your CocoPPa account to your CocoPPa Play account your avatar is carried over to both apps and appears on your social media wall – you earn some free items in both apps for linking, and can more easily login/retrieve your account by having both apps active.

Love Nikki Dress UP Queen takes a lot of what made Hello Nikki Let's Beauty Up so much fun and throws in a few new surprises as well. If you login each day you get all kinds of rewards, basic login rewards, as well as ongoing event rewards, and other goodies. If you compete in the Stylist Arena you can get ranked against others and earn more rewards. The Arena is broken into seasons and the scores reset with new seasons which help new players catch up. You can enjoy the story mode by challenging various NPCs, or you can dress up freely - the choice is yours. With so many ways to play, Love Nikki Dress UP Queen is sure to keep you coming back.
Anime Otome Game Like Harry Potter – Wizardess Heart+
“Shall We Date” is a very popular series of free mobile and browser based Otome Games (Games for Girls) by NTT Solmare. Wizardess Heart is one such game in this series. I recommend this game for anyone who loves Harry Potter (or cute anime games in general). Check out my review of “Shall We Date: Wizardess Heart +” below!

Genre: Otome Visual Novel with Dressup Game elements
Concept: 10/10 This game utilizes Live 2D, a new technology to bring 2d characters to life. Perfect for anime style games. You can get mega rare animated outfits. The picture here is of my character in the game. When you start the game you get one animated outfit for free. This card captor sakura-ish outfit is adorable and it was what I got for free. The other gacha items sometimes (most of the time) will not be animated. These animated outfits are very rare and set this game apart from Moe Can Change and Ambition’s other apps like My Animal Boyfriend which I reviewed here.
Gameplay: 7/10 So aside from getting outfits for your girl, you can also study, work, and take part in events to earn items and personality points. These personality points help your girlfriend evolve into different personality types such as Gentle, Flamboyant, Shy, Friendly, Studious, etc. This effects how she responds and behaves. Allowing you to create your perfect “dream girlfriend” just like the title suggests.
But the main thing is the dressup aspect. There are limited time events almost constantly with new items being added. You have many different slots for dressup such as hair, face, back, body, room, frame, accessories, and more. This ensures that your girlfriend is different and unique from all others.
You can also visit other players’ girlfriends and if they are working or studying you can offer advice to them which boosts your own xp. You can also make recommendations and see them wear your own items. At level 30 you get a 2nd girlfriend increasing your dressup potential two fold.
Really the gameplay can be repetitive though at times. Because of the repetitive gameplay I’ve deducted 2 points.
Also events can be difficult to rank in due to cash shop items which restore energy. You can get free in game currency by watching videos and taking surveys or installing apps. But even with these free offers I am only ranked 3000 and only the top 4000 players get prizes, and really only the top 200 get anything good. They really should put a limit on the amount of energy drinks that you can use in an hour. like 3 an hour or something to level the playing field. I deducted a point due to the over use of the cash shop items especially in ranked events.
TIP: You should always max your charm right away by exchanging event medals – I went from getting 200 points to about 2000 points each click by just trading in my medals. Also play the event gacha and wear as many tie-up outfits as possible to max your score. Complete free offers with Tapjoy and buy the rainbow dx drink if your total stamina is over 100. If it is 100 or less buy the half priced rainbow drink instead.
Graphics: 10/10 Clearly the highlight of this game is its super high quality super kawaii artwork and the whole point of the game is to make a cute or sexy girlfriend of your dreams. I adore the artwork in this game. Its better even than many console games.
I prefer the cute innocent look but there’s a lot of sexy items too. This is another animated item I received. (click to enlarge)
Music: 3/10 The music is cute, but it does not have much variety so you will eventually grow tired of it.
Characters: 8/10 There are a host of cute NPCs, and they have well defined personalities but not much backstory, I took away 2 points for lack of a backstory.
Story: 5/10 There is a story at the beginning of the game and some of the events in the game offer up a glimpse of a story, but the story quickly takes a back seat to the item centric nature of the game. The story is that you have gotten a new cellphone and discover an app already installed when you launch it, your dream girlfriend appears in your room and the sales people who sold you the phone, who are also all cute girls, come over to explain how to set it up.
Replay Value: 10/10 The plethora of events running constantly around the clock make this a game you keep coming back to and playing for long periods of time trying to get the rare items before they disappear.
Concept: 8/10 – This is a very cute app with a lot of fun features. The main focus is on dressing up your “student” and entering different monthly challenges for limited outfits. There’s also an otome element to the game as you can interact with your pet in a “dating sim” sort of fashion.
Gameplay: 10/10 The game begins by selecting what type of animal boyfriend you would like. The choices include: cat, dog, fox, rabbit, or wolf. This determines your basic “starting” appearance, including hair, eyes, expression, and clothes. But all of this will be changed later as you play, so it’s not too critical, just pick whichever one you like best. I chose cat, because I love cats. And when your boyfriend “sleeps” he will evolve back into his animal form which is a very cute chibi super deformed version of an animal sleeping. After bringing your boyfriend home, you can send him to work to earn money (to buy more clothes), or train him to study. By studying, your boyfriend will begin to develop his own personality. There are several different personality types, and you can “equip” both a main personality and sub personality. These personalities influence the way in which the pet will respond during events and when talking to him. There are a lot of events, with one running almost constantly. Some common event types include competing with other players to get votes for best outfit in various themed categories, exploring different maps and collecting new limited items, or item synthesize events in which you combine different items to make new items. These events are ranked against other players and give out nice limited rewards; also there are progress prizes for making it to various score marks. Some outfits will also earn bonus points when equipped during the event or save on your energy to allow you to explore more efficiently. There’s some other gameplay elements which I’ll explain under community below.
Story: 6/10 Most of the events have a story, such as you become sick and he has to take care of you, or you’re going on a picnic, or going to the beach, etc. But the stories are pretty simplistic. They are cute, and better than not having any story at all; but it’s overall, not a very story centric game.
Graphics: 10/10 The graphics are adorable, and the main incentive to play through this game frequently. It makes use of dozens of item “slots” where you can equip and “layer” the items you’ve acquired to create new outfits. Here are a few of the looks my pet has experienced recently:
Music: 4/10 The music is a bit repetitive and they could do with adding some new tracks. There’s no voice acting, and no sound effects either – but the music that is there, is done nicely and not annoying.
Community: 10/10 As I mention under gameplay, there are frequent community based events, where you compete against other players for rare loot and prizes. In addition to the events, you can also make recommendations to other players where their pet will wear the items your pet recommends to them. If someone recommends an item to you, you can even save that recommendation so you can equip it again later, which is a fun way to share outfits with your friends and score some new outfits. The items have a rarity value from normal to rare to super rare; and there’s always the urge to compete to have the best items. Limited items are released often as well. You can send short messages to your friends in game and sometimes your pet will run into other pets while out exploring during an event which will display a little dialogue scene.
Overall: 54/70 77% C+ “Good Game For Girls”

Concept: 10/10 The concept in Pokemini is to collect limited edition items to decorate, not only your avatar, but also your room, and your planet. The highlight of the game is the new “Fashion Fever” events which allow you to earn free items or donuts (the in-game currency) by designing different looks based on a given theme which are then voted on and scored by the community. There’s also a brand new flea market to trade/sell items with other players, and a cooking element as well as quests to further engage the user.
Gameplay: 8/10 You can earn donuts (the in-game currency) by participating in in-game events, visiting your friends’ planets, completing quests from npcs, and leveling up your character. As you level up, your stamina is also increased allowing you to accomplish more before needing to rest. You can also increase your stamina by cooking different recipes. You then spend donuts on new items for your avatar, room, or planet. There’s a ton of in-game events, and new items released almost daily for you to collect. Because the items only stay a short while, it encourages you to log in and play more frequently. Gameplay itself is fairly basic, and it can get very repetitive. The only thing that keeps it fresh is the Fashion fever events and desire to collect new cute items in the limited edition “gumball shop”.
Graphics: 10/10 There are a ton of super cute “anime styled” items to collect and the customization features allow you to have complete control by layering the different looks or arranging items as you please.
Music: 2/10 There are only 3 or 4 different music tracks and they are short, and sometimes grating on the nerves.
Story: 1/10 There’s a story, but it’s very immature and not at all detailed or deep. It’s also only presented as a prologue and not really used throughout the game. The story says that the Minis (which is what your avatar is) came from outer space to earth because they heard of the delicious donuts available here. They now live inside human pockets, feasting on donut crumbs and wanting to be friends with humans. (why are there crumbs in my pocket? Do I carry donuts in my pocket? lol) For awhile, everytime I logged in, or started the app, I had to watch the somewhat long, and rather boring, introduction over and over. I think they may have fixed that, as I haven’t noticed it recently, but there was no way to skip it, and I was getting sick of seeing that opening animation (which unlike the actual game graphics, was pretty ugly).
Characters: 5/10 Well there’s not any “story based” characters, but the community is full of other players who have their own unique avatars and there is a roleplaying community that’s very strong in the game too; so you can use your imagination to create any kinds of characters you’d like.

Customization: 10/10 You can dress your avatar in up to 6 accessories at once, and shoes, a dress, suit, or top and bottoms don’t count against that total so you’re looking at about 10 choices to layer your outfits. You also control your skin color, eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows, and makeup. The most interesting feature is the ability to combine front and back hair styles to create your own custom hairstyle/color. In addition to customizing your avatar, you can also customize your planet, and your room, with dozens of decorations.
Community: 10/10 There are a lot of great community features in Pokemini. There’s a forum that all users can browse or post in and it’s fairly active. People start their own roleplay groups as mentioned above; or just chat about daily life. You also have your own private forum back in your room that users can chat with you one on one on. There’s also private messaging and chat room functionality. In addition to that, there’s a ranking system where it shows who your top or recent visitors were and who’s helped you the most the previous week, and you have 20 “free” donuts to give to your helpers, and they may give you a donut too which sort of encourages you to visit all of your friends’ planets (I’m usually too lazy for that though, I mean even if 20 friends give me a donut that week, that’s not much incentive, when the gumball costs 200 per play). Sometimes I feel “guilty” and try to go visit all my friends and keep it up for a week or two, but then I slip back into not caring and not feeling motivated. You can harvest your friends’ trees, and help them grow faster (so you can harvest them faster); the fruit harvested here can be used in recipes to increase your stamina. And as mentioned a few times above, there’s a ton of community events from fashion shows to flea markets. Most of the community is nice, but they’re mostly young “highschool” aged kids. I feel kind of out of place as a 30 something year old playing this game at times. Because of the “anime art style” I find a lot of users with similar interests to me, including Asian Balljointed Dolls, anime, or Kdrama enthusiasts.
Performance: 4/10 It’s not impossible to play this game; and it doesn’t crash every time, but there’s some connectivity issues that really need addressed. Most notably, it crashes sometimes while “voting” in Fashion Fever events which causes you to not get credit for the time you spent voting since you have to complete a “round” of voting to receive the donuts. It does this at least once every other day for me, while playing on an older generation Ipad 2.
Replay Value: 10/10 The replay value is high here due to the numerous in-game events, limited edition items, and community aspects within the game.
Overall:76/110 69% D+ “Average Game For Girls”
I like this game more than my score reflects, as you can see, in some areas it scores quite highly, but there are just a few things that hold it back from “greatness” I’d still recommend it to anyone who enjoys these types of dressup games 🙂

Concept: 6/10 Tiny Farm is a game similar in nature to that of Harvest Moon or Farmville. The objective is to take care of live stock, plant and harvest crops, go fishing, and breed the animals in your farm, all while making a profit to buy new farming equipment, better seeds, better livestock, etc. It’s one of those games that’s fun in small doses, and addictive at first, but if you intend to play it heavily, you may become bored by the repetitive nature of these games. They try to lessen that effect somewhat by regularly having special events with limited edition livestock or other prizes that you don’t want to miss out on, which keeps you logging in to keep up with the latest in-game events and items. I also find it a bit more interesting than just a farming simulator as you can also run your own zoo, or go to the beach, or participate in other activities as well.

Gameplay: 7/10 The gameplay is pretty simple and straight forward, the controls are easy, you can click on an animal to bring up a submenu where you can give it “love” which helps it level up, and once it reaches certain levels of love it can breed with certain other animals who also have max love. You can also sell your animals to make room for new animals (which you’ll have to do a lot in the early levels as your space is very limited). You get to play the lucky bag gacha once every 24 hours for free and inside you will find things like animals, eggs, decorations, buildings, etc. You also get to go on a safari once a day for free. The safari is a mini game in which you must turn over cards to collect animal foot prints. Once you reach a certain number of footprints you’re able to bring home a new animal. You can find different animals in different areas on the map. You can place buildings and decorations around your farm, zoo, or beach to increase the profits from these areas. Also back on the farm, you can hire a search party to capture different animals; the choices change each day with different animals being able to be found. Legendary animals also appear and can be captured after having given animals on your farm enough love. To capture the legendary creatures you’ll need to spend even more love; which becomes problematic as you never have enough love when the animals first appear – they do this because they want you to spend money. If you can find a way to level up, that will replenish your love and allow you to capture the animal before it disappears. Visiting friends gives you a few bonuses, but is pretty useless, there’s really no social interaction or multiplayer appeal to this game. The repetitive nature of the game also drops it down a few points in our score, it’s just not very fun after awhile. I like to check in on my farm 3 or 4 times a day for about 15-25 minutes at a time; anything more than that would be incredibly boring.
Story: 0/10 There is literally no story. The game is going to take a hit in our score books here, since we always rate games based on story and gameplay.
Characters: 8/10 I kinda “fudged” this category a bit (otherwise the score will be too low); and for this review, I am considering the animals themselves as the characters in this game, since there are no characters and no story. But there are some SERIOUSLY CUTE animals…. A llama in a banana costume, a nine tails in a barista costume, and many more. They’re over the top, creative, cute, zany, and limited edition too which makes me want to play to collect em all (like pokemon). The animals are really the heart and soul of the game. I think they could add a feature similar to pokemini, lineplay, or cocoplay though where you have a human avatar representing yourself and get to dress her/him and collect outfits from the gacha. I also think they could open up inter-species breeding. (maybe it unlocks at a higher level, I only began playing last week), to offer a wider range of pets. Right now it’s pretty specific, pets that look the same like a bearded pig and boar can’t breed with each other even or a Black cow and a Dairy Cow, when it seems like breeding them should be possible. So I deducted a point there.

Customization: 7/10 You can customize where you place your buildings and which animals you have on exhibit in your zoo. However, there’s little to do to customize the animals themselves. You can purchase “special effects” like rose petals or other things to place around your animals, but the effects available for purchase are limited (can count on one hand). And as mentioned above they’re missing out on further customization by neglecting to have human avatars, outfit gachas, or even outfits or accessories for the animals. Most of all though, I think the game could be more customizeable by allowing us to set different features within our shops; think of the old retro Rollercoaster Tycoon game for Sega Genesis, you could choose how salty your food was, how much ice was in your fountain drinks, etc. Finding the right balance between profit and happy customers. I think a feature like that brought to Tiny Farm could really make it shine and differentiate itself from its competition. But the buildings are upgradeable which unlocks more profits and bonuses which is a nice touch. I just would like to see them take customization a step or two further.
Kawaiiness (Cuteness): 10/10 – This is the cutest little farming game I’ve ever seen, the pets are so adorable. The fact that there are so many different animals, and especially lots of in game events with limited time animals makes it even more adorable. I would play this any day compared to farmville or hay day.
Music: 8/10 Cute and catchy music that is repetitive but does not get annoying
Graphics: 10/10 The graphics are “pixel” style and have a cute retro feel. The buildings are brightly colored and there’s a lot of different styles of pets and buildings to choose from.
Performance: 10/10 I have not experienced a game crash or any lag while playing on my old Ipad 2 (before Air designations). I have only been playing for a week though so that may change as my farm grows and more buildings/animals are packed onto my screen (taking more resources to display).
